Division of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery
The
Division of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery (OHNS) includes ten physicians, five residents and five audiologists that manage a full spectrum of head-and-neck-related diseases. We have subspecialists in head and neck oncology, otology/neurotology,
rhinology, laryngology, facial plastic surgery and pediatric otolaryngology. We see patients at The University of Vermont Medical Center at the ambulatory care center and a satellite clinic in Berlin at Central Vermont Medical Center. Last year,
our physicians saw over 20,000 outpatients and performed more than 2,300 surgical procedures.
Education
The Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery residency program is the crown jewel of our division. Our graduates have excelled in academic careers for more than 45 years. Our one resident per year program gives our trainees intimate exposure to all
facets of our specialty while preparing them well for fellowship training. We continue to attract and match the best applicants from across the nation to our program. We have an active medical student rotation. We have had very successful UVM
graduates go into top-tier residencies in Otolaryngology.
Our previous Chairman, Dr. Sofferman, was a leader in the field of head and neck ultrasound and ran the ultrasound course for the American College of Surgeons for several years.
Research
Our physicians and residents are actively involved in clinical outcomes research and in industry-sponsored clinical trials
