Call for Proposals: 2024 Health Equity Summit

Discover and share exciting initiatives at the third annual Health Equity Summit, Building Solidarity: Sustainable Pathways Towards Health Equity. The Summit is a collaboration between community members, healthcare providers and educators to dismantle institutional barriers to health and enhance patient experiences.

Dates: Monday, October 7, 4 - 6 pm: Poster presentations and kickoff reception

Tuesday, October 8, 8 am - 5 pm: Workshops and sessions

Reconsidering Resilience: Insights from Copeland’s Research

Most children are exposed to adversity by the time they reach adulthood, but a portion of children stay free of mental illness despite trying circumstances. A recent study led by Professor of Psychiatry William Copeland, Ph.D., and supported by UVM researchers, challenges the notion that childhood resilience is common and explores possible solutions to this crisis via public health initiatives.

Tighe’s DNA Extraction Work Reaches New Heights

(NOVEMBER 10, 2023) A lyophilized whole-cell mix of 10 bacterial species customized by Scott Tighe, technical director at the University of Vermont’s advanced genomics lab, and colleagues, was sent to the International Space Station aboard the SpaceX CRS-29 Cargo Dragon Resupply Craft mission on November 9.

CORA Grant Funds Narcan Vending Machine in Johnson, Daily Yonder Reports

(NOVEMBER 9, 2023) Thanks to a grant from the University of Vermont’s Center on Rural Addiction (CORA), the Johnson Health Center has a vending machine that dispenses free boxes of the life-saving overdose reversal drug naloxone—the first of its kind in the state—the (Whitesburg, Kentucky) Daily Yonder reports.

MedPage Today Highlights Soll Commentary on Umbilical Cord Study

(NOVEMBER 9, 2023) Neonatologist Roger Soll, M.D., professor of pediatrics, commented in the journal Pediatrics on a randomized controlled trial showing that umbilical cord milking appeared to be a safe alternative to delayed cord clamping in very premature infants, according to MedPage Today.
