    In December 2018, Danielle Smith ’20 was two weeks into her six-week family medicine rotation and hadn’t yet selected a community health project topic. Then, a series of serendipitous events pointed her in the perfect direction, starting with a Family Medicine Ground Rounds presentation by W. Stephen Faraci, Ph.D., founder and chief scientific officer at CYTA Therapeutics, Inc. in Lowell, Mass., called “Medical Marijuana: Overview and Potential Use for Family Medicine Doctors.”
  • Nelson’s Research Leadership Garners NHLBI Outstanding Investigator Award

    University of Vermont (UVM) Distinguished Professor and Chair of Pharmacology Mark Nelson, Ph.D., has been awarded a prestigious $6.45 million dollar Outstanding Investigator Award (OIA) from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National Institutes of Health. The award will provide support for Nelson’s research program, titled “Capillaries as a Sensory Web that Controls Cerebral Blood Flow in Health and Disease,” for seven years.
  • SIG Highlight: New Student Interest Groups

    Every spring semester, there's a leadership transition in the Student Interest Groups (SIGs) at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, from the second year class to the first year class. In addition to these changes, new SIGs often emerge during this time. This year, there are three new groups that have applied to become official SIGs, including the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA), UV & Me, and History and Mystery of Medicine. Additionally, the Psychiatry SIG will be reinstated.
  • Class of 2021 Celebrates Teachers, Classmates at Foundations Awards Event

    The UVM Larner College of Medicine Class of 2021 participated in a Foundations Awards celebration January 24. The event, which marks the completion of the first level of the Vermont Integrated Curriculum, provides an opportunity for second-year medical students to join with faculty and staff and express their gratitude for the contributions of these Larner College of Medicine community members to their medical education journey.
