The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont presented the 2022 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Health Equity Lecture on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Christine M. Crawford, M.D., M.P.H., associate director of medical student education and assistant professor of psychiatry at Boston University (BU) School of Medicine, presented the lecture, titled "Impact of Racism and Trauma on Black Mental Health," both in the Sullivan Classroom and via Zoom.

In addition to her roles at BU School of Medicine, Crawford serves as the associate medical director for the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI). She received her medical degree from the University of Connecticut and completed an adult psychiatry residency as well as child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital. She also received a Master in Public Health degree at BU School of Public Health with a focus on social and behavioral sciences.

Crawford has been engaged in several community outreach initiatives through the Boys and Girls Club of Boston, NAACP and NAMI and has authored multiple book chapters and peer-reviewed publications on mental health disparities, black mental health, and sociocultural issues within psychiatry. She has been featured on numerous media outlets and regularly provides seminars on mental health and racism in both business and community-based settings.
