(JULY 22, 2016) The Academic Health Sciences group at the University of Vermont Medical Center Foundation and the University of Vermont Foundation have announced the appointment of Frank Ittleman, M.D., professor of surgery, as faculty associate in development.

In this newly-created formal role, Ittleman, who continues to perform teaching and clinical responsibilities, works closely with the Academic Health Sciences development staff and volunteers in soliciting gifts in support of campaign funding priorities at the UVM Medical Center, the UVM College of Medicine, the UVM Cancer Center and the UVM College of Nursing and Health Sciences. He also represents Academic Health Sciences at select meetings and events. In addition, Ittleman was recently elected to serve a three-year term on the UVM Medical Center Foundation board, where he joins another current clinical leader, Stephen Leffler, M.D., chief medical officer at the UVM Medical Center, who lends his time, leadership, and knowledge to increase private philanthropic support.

“The development team is excited to work with Dr. Ittleman, and I am personally grateful for his willingness to serve in this capacity,” says Kevin McAteer, chief development officer for Academic Health Sciences. “Dr. Ittleman’s many years of caring for patients and their families, and his knowledge about, and passion for, our clinical, education and research missions are already proving to be invaluable resources for our fundraising program.”

The former director of the UVM cardiothoracic surgery program, Ittleman has served in numerous leadership positions during his more than 30-year career at UVM, including as executive vice chair of the Department of Surgery and associate vice president for operations for the UVM Medical Group. He earned his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and began his career at Case Western Reserve University and other hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, before joining the UVM faculty and medical center in 1980.
