Frymoyer Scholars Program: 2023 Call for Proposals NOW OPEN!

Through the Frymoyer Scholars Program, the John W. and Nan P. Frymoyer Fund for Medical Education supports physicians and nurses who are actively engaged in teaching University of Vermont medical and nursing students and who embody the best qualities of the clinician teacher. The program is an investment in outstanding medical education and promotes teaching that emphasizes the art of interprofessional collaborative patient care.

MedEdPORTAL/Academic Medicine Announce Scholarly Publishing Webinar Series

MedEdPORTAL and Academic Medicine have announced a new monthly webinar series that will cover the importance of publishing your education scholarship and practical suggestions for how to do so successfully, including how to improve your writing and navigate the peer-review and publication processes. Sessions will include interactive exercises to practice what you have learned and time for Q&A with the editorial teams of Academic Medicine and/or MedEdPORTAL. The topics and recommendations presented will also apply to other types of medical education scholarship and to submissions to other journals and publications. Additional sessions be added to this series throughout the year. Register here!

NBME Open Enrollment Item-Writing Workshop for Educators

For educators looking to improve their skills in test item writing, NBME now offers remote open-enrollment item-writing workshops. Many medical school faculty have asked us to provide workshops that are more flexible to attend and that allow them to connect with other educators outside their institutions. We are pleased to announce this new offering to give you the tools to develop exam questions that more effectively test your students’ knowledge. NEGEA CONNECT: Nominations are open for NEGEA Awards

  • NEGEA Distinguished Educator Award: Recognize and honor an individual from an NEGEA institution who has made a significant contribution over time to the field of medical education. Nominees should exhibit excellence in teaching, both at their institution and within NEGEA; noteworthy professional development of others through innovative faculty development, mentoring relationships and other developmental activities; and a track record of educational scholarship, including peer-reviewed publications in medical education. Nominations due by February 28, 2023
  • NEGEA Distinguished Service & Leadership Award: Recognize and honor an individual from an NEGEA institution who has made a significant contribution over time to the NEGEA as an organization.  Individuals who are nominated should have met 2 or more of the following criteria: provided dedicated service to NEGEA over a substantial time period; engaged in an NEGEA initiative that lead to leadership at the national level; significantly shaped the direction of the NEGEA; made a noteworthy enhancement or improvement to the functioning of the NEGEA as an organization. Nominations due by February 28, 2023
  • NEGEA Innovation in Medical Education Award: The NEGEA supports and encourages innovation in medical education.  To recognize faculty members in NEGEA-affiliated schools who have developed an innovative approach to medical education, the NEGEA will provide one award of $1,000 to recognize an outstanding innovation in medical education. Applications due February 28, 2023

Regional/National Call for Proposals 

Now Accepting Pre-Proposals for the 2023 National Educational Research Grant Award

The GEA seeks to fund research projects that address important problems or questions in medical education. Proposals that foster collaboration are strongly encouraged.  This includes collaborations among GEA sections (UME, GME, CPD), across GEA regions (CGEA, NEGEA, SGEA, WGEA) and/or proposals that engage multiple schools, professions, or departments. Multiple projects may be funded each year up to $10,000 each up to a two-year grant period. The number of proposals funded per year will depend upon the GEA budget and proposal quality. Pre-proposals are due on February 20, 2023, by 11:59 PM PT. Full proposals are due April 11, 2023, by 11:59 PM PT. Full Proposal decisions are anticipated near June 1st, 2023. "Health Systems Science" with Steve Berns, MD 
This 3-part virtual faculty development series will cover all the major topics for Medical Education during the Clerkship. This program is available to all teachers, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff (e.g., clerkship coordinators). Each part (101, 201, and 301) consists of one-hour sessions with the curriculum to repeat every 3 years.
