Congratulations Teaching Academy Members!

  • Daniel Ackil, DO, Teaching Academy Member and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, was recently named director of simulation education in the UVM Clinical Simulation Laboratory.
  • At the UVM Cancer Center’s recent annual scientific retreat, $25,000 in seed funding was awarded for the “Spatialomics and Precision Medicine Pipeline” project, which will be co-led by Alan Howe, PhD, Professor of Pharmacology, and Douglas Taatjes, PhD, Teaching Academy Distinguished Educator and Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Director of the Center for Biomedical Shared Resources.

Updated Teaching Portfolio

The Teaching Academy Portfolio Application was recently updated to enhance documentation around diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Many thanks to the most recent Portfolio Review Committee for their help in clarifying the needs and refining the language in the portfolio and reviewer documents. Frymoyer Scholars Program: 2023 Call for Proposals NOW OPEN!

Through the Frymoyer Scholars Program, the John W. and Nan P. Frymoyer Fund for Medical Education supports physicians and nurses who are actively engaged in teaching University of Vermont medical and nursing students and who embody the best qualities of the clinician teacher. The program is an investment in outstanding medical education and promotes teaching that emphasizes the art of interprofessional collaborative patient care.

AAMC Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Certificate Program

This application-based certificate program cultivates leaders in academic medicine through evidence-based, collaborative learning and reflective practice. The program will be delivered as a one-year, cohort-based, national leadership development certificate program that focuses on four areas: Strategic vision and setting direction; Developing people; Developing organizations; and Managing effectively. Regional/National Call for Proposals 

Now Accepting Pre-Proposals for the 2023 National Educational Research Grant Award

The GEA seeks to fund research projects that address important problems or questions in medical education. Proposals that foster collaboration are strongly encouraged.  This includes collaborations among GEA sections (UME, GME, CPD), across GEA regions (CGEA, NEGEA, SGEA, WGEA) and/or proposals that engage multiple schools, professions, or departments. Multiple projects may be funded each year up to $10,000 each up to a two-year grant period. The number of proposals funded per year will depend upon the GEA budget and proposal quality. Pre-proposals are due on February 20, 2023, by 11:59 PM PT. Full proposals are due April 11, 2023, by 11:59 PM PT. Full Proposal decisions are anticipated near June 1st, 2023. Sullivan Presents Poster at CF Conference, Healio News Reports

(NOVEMBER 9, 2022) Vitamin D levels in patients with a deficiency and cystic fibrosis increased with a single high dose, according to a poster presented by Professor of Pediatrics Jillian S. Sullivan, M.D., and colleagues at the North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference held November 3-5 in Philadelphia, Healio News reported.

(NOVEMBER 9, 2022) Vitamin D levels in patients with a deficiency and cystic fibrosis increased with a single high dose, according to a poster presented by Professor of Pediatrics Jillian S. Sullivan, M.D., and colleagues at the North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference held November 3-5 in Philadelphia, Healio News reported. “Stoss vitamin D dosing can be successfully implemented in routine cystic fibrosis care and increases vitamin D levels in [persons with cystic fibrosis] and vitamin D deficiency,” Sullivan and colleagues wrote.
