Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship-New Global Health Focus offered for Academic Year 2020 Match

July 12, 2019 by Danielle Ehret, MD, MPH and Deirdre O’Reilly, MD, MPH

July 11 (#WorldPopulationDay), we launched a new global health focus within our neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship at the University of Vermont (UVM) Larner College of Medicine.  We are opening recruitment for fellowship candidates interested in pursuing global newborn health as their area of academic focus during fellowship to join our program at UVM in July 2020.

The first 28 days of life – the neonatal period – is the most vulnerable time for a child’s survival.  Globally, 2.5 million children died within the neonatal period in 2017, with about 1 million dying on their first day of life, approximately 99% occurring in low- and middle-income countries.  At UVM, we recognize the importance of global newborn health training and mentorship and are committed to supporting individuals who will contribute in advancing this field.

Please see the linked press release for more detail about our program and opportunities for neonatology fellowship candidates interested in global health.
