  • Medical Student Survey. This survey explores attitudes and intentions towards people experiencing homelessness:  The University of Central Florida College of Medicine is conducting a research study that aims to assess medical students' attitudes toward people experiencing homelessness. The survey will ultimately help evaluate the impact of various interventions on students' perspectives, helping to improve education on homelessness in medical school and promote compassion amongst medical trainees. It takes 30 minutes or less to complete and is fully confidential. Participants will receive a $5 Amazon gift card from UCF’s Office of Planning and Knowledge Management. Support a local small business that many medical students have loved and been utilizing the past few years - Sanju Beauty Salon (55 Patchen Rd, South Burlington). She does eyebrow threading, brow lamination, waxing and facials and is a licensed esthetician. She has been incredibly supportive of us from early medical school and just opened her own studio so it would be wonderful to help get the word out about it so other students can benefit.   • Dean Zehle Drop In Meetings - Sign Up!: 4/16 12-1PM These drop-ins are provided for students to connect with the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education. We protect student drop-in sessions to ensure our students are able to discuss any arising issues or concerns, and to ensure your dean is always accessible to you. You can secure a 20-minute slot during the provided drop-in hours, using the Dean for Medical Education drop-ins sign-up. .   • 6th Annual Otolaryngology Virtual Chautauqua:  Every Thursday from May 8, 2025 through July 10, 2025 from 7:30 to 9:00 PM EDT . The University of Buffalo will have talks by otolaryngologists geared to prepare students for otolaryngology rotations and content.   • Conference Funding Available: The Burke Foundation Gift is to support registration and travel costs for a medical student of any year in training interested in attending a conference in addiction medicine, substance use disorders and/or mental health.   • Medical Education Thematic Working Group is looking for a Student Rep- deadline Monday, April 28th at 12PM. The Thematic Working Group is a working group of the Medical Curriculum Committee (MCC) and is looking for a class representative from the class of 2028. The Charge of this group is to review the location (horizontal and vertical integration), quantity, and quality of thematic content in the curriculum, (ex. reproductive rights, EBMs, Palliative Care, etc.) and making recommendations for curriculum improvements to the Medical Curriculum Committee. Topics change quarterly at the recommendation of the working group and/or MCC, and meetings are held monthly. If interested, please forward a paragraph/statement of interest to Colleen Case no later than Monday, April 28 at noon.   • Shelf Resources: A reminder that the Dana Library has some e-book and print books that may be helpful for shelf exams, test-taking and developing clinical knowledge: The Subject Exam link has supplemental resources for each clinical rotation (e.g., Case Files series, Step-up series); the Step 2 Exam link has an e-book "Test-taking Strategies for the USMLE Step 2".  Want to learn more about strategically approaching NBME clinical knowledge questions?   • Sign Up for Clerkship Reflective Writing!: 4/11, 2025 Want to reflect on your clerkship year as you go? Sign up for a pilot reflective writing program designed to work with your busy clerkship schedule and to help you with specialty decision making and residency applications! This year, PCR is piloting an optional reflective writing program. It will consist of 8 flexible reflection activities that are low-time commitment and designed to help you process your clerkship experiences. This optional pilot is not a part of the PCR-3 curriculum, and the reflections are not graded or shared with PCR faculty. Ultimately, we hope this program will help with specialty-decision making and residency applications. Please email Dr. Sakshi Jasra and/or Sarah Yang '26 to sign up!

 

M3 STUDENTS (co2026)

  • Association of Women Surgeons: 4/8, 12-1 PM, MedEd 200. Join us for a panel discussion with Class of 2025 M4s who have recently matched into surgical residency programs. They will share their experiences navigating medical school, applying to surgical specialties, and building a career in surgery. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, gain insights, and learn from their journeys firsthand.
  • UB Plastic Surgery Research Fellowship: now. The University at Buffalo 1-year funded Research Fellowship for M3's looking to take a dedicated research year. The individual in this position will work closely with the faculty and residents in the University at Buffalo's Division of Plastic Surgery. The primary responsibility will be to assist with and generate research for the division. This is a 1 Year, Scholarship Funded Position (12 months), July 1 Start Date. DUTIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITIED TO: • Collaborations with PI and co-investigators to develop research protocols • Conduct literature searches • Develop and maintain research databases • IRB approvals and communication • Produce abstracts, manuscripts and poster presentations for submission/presentation at Regional or National meetings • Attend Regional/National meetings (funding provided) as needed to support/present accepted research • Attend/Contribute to regularly scheduled departmental research meetings BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: • US Medical Student in good standing between M3 years and M4 years • Interest in Plastic Surgery • Self-Motivated and able to work independently on multiple projects Email Resume, Letter of Interest and 1-2 Letters of Recommendation to: Katie Petrell

  • Commencement Guest Tickets: May 1, 2025, 12 PM Tickets will be available online to degree candidates only beginning Friday, March 28 to Thursday, May 1 at 12:00 P.M. (EDT). Each degree candidate is eligible to receive up to six tickets. You will receive an email from Academic_Ceremonies@uvm.edu in your UVM email (NOT your MED.UVM.EDU) account on Friday, March 28. The email will include a link to the University of Vermont University Tickets web page where you will be asked to log in with your UVM Net ID and password. Once logged in, degree candidates will be able to reserve their tickets and print them out at any time and/or send them to their family and friends. Students will have the option to request up to two additional tickets via a waiting list. Wait list tickets will be distributed after the initial ticket deadline of May 1 has passed. Lost & Found

Lost something? Email the Office of Medical Student Education (OMSE) a description of the item. OMSE and the Dana Medical Library recently joined the UVM campus-wide lost & found system and search not only the College of Medicine, but campus as a whole to see if it's been turned in. If it hasn't, the office can file a claim for the item should someone turn it in soon!

Found something? Please turn it into either the Office of Medical Student Education (Given Courtyard n100) or the Dana Medical Library (First floor of the Medical Education Center) and we will be sure to log it into the Campus-Wide Lost & Found Database.

Found items are kept up to 30 days, and then are donated to various local organizations depending on the item.
