WEEKLY UVM Larner Med FYIs

  • Seeking Student for Hepatology Research Project: Summer-Fall/Winter 2022/2023. Danielle Wall is looking for a medical student to help with data collection (specifically chart review). You will also have the opportunity to co-author the final manuscript.
  • Family Medicine Leadership Planning: A process of leadership transition in the Department of Family Medicine has begun. Thomas Peterson, M.D., who has led the department as chair and physician leader for 12 years, has announced his intention in one year from now to retire in April of 2023...
  • Funds for Educational and Scholarly Opportunities (FESO): The FESO process has been updated! Applications that meet certain criteria (i.e. presenting work that has been accepted at a national meeting) will now be reviewed/approved on a rolling basis for up to $750. Learn more...
  • UVM Larner Med in a Time of COVID - Special Reports, Information, & Resources:
    • Academic Travel Policy Update: Due to the pandemic, academic travel was restricted. The travel addendum will sunset on 05/13/22, which means many permissions for national and international will be relaxed. However, authorizations continue to be required, per UVM Travel & Expense policies and procedures. Do not purchase tickets for international or out-of-state domestic overnight travel for UVM-related purposes after May 13 unless officially approved at the department level.
    • Mask requirements: In most areas, masks are optional. Keep masks accessible, as there are times and places in which it will be necessary to mask. Please note, masks are still required in the Sim Lab, UVMMC, and most clinical environments. For a list of areas where masks are still required, see UVM’s face covering guidance...
    • UVMMC Access Restrictions Continue: Entrance to the hospital via the Davis Auditorium doors is restricted to all except UVMMC employees and those with hospital badge access due to screening requirements. The only option would be to enter through the hospital main entrances which allow mandatory screening. We will let students know if/when this changes.
      • Additional Information: Currently, employees and badge holders are given the option to self-screen for symptoms prior to entering the hospital setting, which removes their need to present to hospital entrances for screening. At this time, no option to self-screen has been offered to non-employees or preclinical level students (nor is badge access to that door offered to anyone without a UVMMC badge).

Housing Opportunities

Graduate students are highly sought tenants in the Burlington area and property owners often advertise specifically to them with special rates (less than would be offered to undergraduate students). Don't hesitate to ask housing contacts if they would consider lowering the advertised rate to secure a graduate student; it never hurts to ask!

Explore housing opportunities & housing support resources via the UVM Off-campus Housing Site...

UVM Off-Campus Housing Resource List: This resource, developed out of the UVM Office of Student & Community Relations (OSCR) includes many helpful resources for Burlington Area housing (UVM/MED credentials required)...

Lost & Found

Lost something? Email the Office of Medical Student Education (OMSE) a description of the item. OMSE and the Dana Medical Library recently joined the UVM campus-wide lost & found system and search not only the College of Medicine, but campus as a whole to see if it's been turned in. If it hasn't, the office can file a claim for the item should someone turn it in soon!

Found something? Please turn it into either the Office of Medical Student Education (Given Courtyard n100) or the Dana Medical Library (First floor of the Medical Education Center) and we will be sure to log it into the Campus-Wide Lost & Found Database.

Found items are kept up to 30 days, and then are donated to various local organizations depending on the item.
