Congratulations Teaching Academy Members!

On Thursday, September 21, an awards ceremony celebrated the outstanding dedication of Larner and UVM researchers to advancing medicine and science at the Dean’s Celebration of Excellence in Research Awards. Teaching Academy members were among the recipients: Category: New Investigator Assistant Professor of Medicine Sherrie Khadanga, MD; Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine Christian Pulcini, MD, MEd, MPH.

 

2024 Snow Season Education Retreat: Call for Abstracts

SnowSeasonBannerThis is an opportunity for UVM LCOM educators to share ideas and to collaborate across departments. We are particularly interested in work related to the education of professionals across the continuum of learners. The Snow Season Education Retreat will be held on Thursday, January 18 and Friday, January 19, 2024.  If your abstract is selected, you will be expected to attend the Poster Session on Friday, January 19, 2024, in-person at the Davis Center. If you request a peer-review for your poster, you must be present during the Snow Season Poster Session. The deadline for poster abstract submission is November 6, 2023. The Submission form is available online. Abstract must be no more than 300 words. Please submit your poster proposal to Teaching.Academy@med.uvm.edu

All submissions will undergo a peer review process.  Peer reviewers will be sourced via open invitation between mid-September and mid-October. Your submission is considered a commitment to attend the meeting associated with your submission and present if your proposal is accepted.

AAMC 2024 Medical Education Call for Conference Submission Reviewers

The AAMC is soliciting abstract reviewers for the following conferences: 2024 GEA Spring Regional Meetings & Learn Serve Lead 2024: AAMC Annual Meeting Call for Submissions in Medical Education. All submissions for both conferences will undergo a peer review process.  If you would like to serve as a reviewer for either of these conferences, please complete the Reviewer Survey. The reviewer signup period will close on Tuesday, October 17, 11:59pm PT.

JGME Annual Call for New Ideas Submissions 2024

The Journal of Graduate Medical Education (JGME) is seeking novel graduate medical education (GME) interventions or assessments that have been implemented at least once and appear successful in preliminary evaluations. These interventions can be an innovation in curricula, teaching, assessment, quality and safety, program evaluation, supervision, faculty development, or other topics relevant to GME (ie, post-medical school training). Selected papers will be published in the June 2024 issue of JGME. Note: if the paper content focuses on climate it may go in the Climate and GME supplement to be published in 2024.Submission deadline: 8:00 AM CT, Tuesday, October 17, 2023. IAMSE 2023 Virtual Forum “Should it Stay or Should It Go? Changing Health Education for Changing Times”


October 18-20, 2023: Join IAMSE for their 2023 Virtual Forum where they will discuss what works and what does not serve educators and students alike when it comes to curriculum reform - what should stay and what should go. Topics will cover how curriculum reform impacts students, curriculum, and teaching as well as Artificial Intelligence in Health Sciences Education. Regional/National Call for Proposals

NBME Emerging Innovators Grant Program

To empower aspiring leaders looking to make a lasting impact in medical education, NBME is piloting the new Emerging Innovators Grant Program. This grant is intended to support early- and mid-career medical education faculty or staff who share our commitment to advancing equitable practices which foster a diverse and inclusive medical community. We seek projects that promote innovative thinking and push the boundaries of medical education and assessment locally and/or nationally. NBME will fund up to $25,000 in total for each accepted proposal. Four proposals that can be completed within a 1-2-year timeframe will be selected. Grants will be awarded to medical schools accredited by the LCME or the AOA/COCA; applications are accepted from principal investigators with appointments at LCME- and AOA/COCA-accredited medical schools. The 2023 call for proposals focuses on the theme of Promoting Equitable Assessment in Medical Education. Deadline: October 8, 2023

  • Whitaker Awarded $1.95M Grant to Unravel Anesthesia-Induced Hypotension
    August 31, 2023 by Angela Ferrante
    Emmett Whitaker, M.D., FAAP, associate professor of anesthesiology, neurological sciences, and pediatrics, received a substantial R35 MIRA grant from NIGMS for his study “Vascular Determinants of Anesthesia-Induced Hypotension at the Extremes of Age.” This five-year project—the department’s first NIH grant—addresses intraoperative hypotension in neonates, infants, and older adults under anesthesia.
