Congratulations Teaching Academy Members!

Bei Zhang, MD, PhD, Teaching Academy Master Teacher and Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine was recently named the Director of the Masters in Pathology role.

Katie Dolbec, MD, Teaching Academy Master Teacher, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, and Director of Sports Medicine, has been appointed Assistant Dean for Students in the Office of Medical Education, effective September 5, 2023. In this role, Dr. Dolbec will provide leadership and support related to medical student academic achievement, career planning, health and wellbeing, and professional identity formation, to the Medical Student Services team.

All submissions will undergo a peer review process.  Peer reviewers will be sourced via open invitation between mid-September and mid-October. Your submission is considered a commitment to attend the meeting associated with your submission and present if your proposal is accepted.

Learn Serve Lead 2024: The AAMC Annual Meeting Call for Submissions in Medical Education

November 8-12, 2024, Atlanta, GA. The AAMC is accepting submissions for Learn Serve Lead 2024: The AAMC Annual Meeting. Learn Serve Lead (LSL) is open to all those engaged in advancing academic medicine and brings together our medical school and teaching hospital community from across campuses, disciplines, and missions. All submissions are due by December 1, 2023, 11:59 pm PT. The call for medical education submissions consists of three types (described in more detail online):

Call for Proposals for NEGEA MESRE Grants and Scholars Grants!

The NEGEA Steering Committee is excited to announce that the Call for Proposals for MESRE Grants and Scholars Grants are now open!

Application Deadline for both grants is September 30, 2023.

NBME Emerging Innovators Grant Program

To empower aspiring leaders looking to make a lasting impact in medical education, NBME is piloting the new Emerging Innovators Grant Program. This grant is intended to support early- and mid-career medical education faculty or staff who share our commitment to advancing equitable practices which foster a diverse and inclusive medical community. We seek projects that promote innovative thinking and push the boundaries of medical education and assessment locally and/or nationally. NBME will fund up to $25,000 in total for each accepted proposal. Four proposals that can be completed within a 1-2-year timeframe will be selected. Grants will be awarded to medical schools accredited by the LCME or the AOA/COCA; applications are accepted from principal investigators with appointments at LCME- and AOA/COCA-accredited medical schools. The 2023 call for proposals focuses on the theme of Promoting Equitable Assessment in Medical Education. Deadline: October 8, 2023

Essentials of Teaching and Assessment Course

September 21 & 22, 2023

This is a two-day, intensive hybrid course to introduce participants to the pedagogy, strategies, and resources for effective teaching and assessment. The course is designed especially for faculty, residents, fellows, graduate students, and postdocs who are new to teaching.

This event is open to all UVM Larner College of Medicine faculty at all teaching sites in the University of Vermont Health Network.

The course takes place for approximately two half-days (in-person the afternoon of 9/21 and virtually the morning of 9/22).
