VT Digger Reports on Launch of Lyme Disease Vaccine Trial at UVM

(SEPTEMBER 10, 2023) Infectious disease specialist Kristen Pierce, M.D., professor of medicine, is principal investigator for a clinical study at the Vaccine Testing Center and the UVM Medical Center of a Pfizer vaccine to protect against Lyme disease, VT Digger reports.

(SEPTEMBER 10, 2023) Infectious disease specialist Kristen Pierce, M.D., professor of medicine, is principal investigator for a clinical study at the Vaccine Testing Center and the UVM Medical Center of a Pfizer vaccine to protect against Lyme disease, VT Digger reports.

The currently active Phase 3 trial will test whether three doses of the vaccine and a booster do better at protecting participants from Lyme disease than the same number of doses of a saline placebo. The study will take place over 30 months and involve at least seven visits to a clinic at the Burlington hospital, as well as four or five blood draws. Due to the large response to requests for volunteers, the study is no longer recruiting participants.
