Larner College of Medicine Research Laureate and University Distinguished Professor of Medicine Ralph Budd, M.D., will present the inaugural Research Laureate Lecture on May 9, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. in the Sullivan Classroom in the Medical Education Center. Larner College of Medicine Research Laureate and University Distinguished Professor of Medicine Ralph Budd, M.D., will present the inaugural Research Laureate Lecture on May 9, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. in the Sullivan Classroom in the Medical Education Center. His talk is titled “The El Greco Lesson: 33 Years of Thinking Lupus.”
Budd received the Dean’s Research Laureate Award at the College of Medicine’s inaugural Dean's Excellence in Research Awards event held November 1, 2016. The award recognizes a senior investigator of professor rank for demonstrated extramural research support and excellence in impact of individual publications and/or overall published work. In particular, Budd was recognized for 26 years of continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health totaling more than $60 million and including T32, P01 and COBRE grants; more than 100 publications; a high volume of successful mentees at the undergraduate, graduate, post-docreceptoral and junior faculty levels; and his multiple honors, which include being named a Pew Scholar, UVM University Scholar, Fogarty International Fellow, and member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and Association of American Physicians.
Budd joined the University of Vermont faculty in 1989. The director of the Vermont Center for Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Budd is an internationally recognized physician-scientist who has made tremendous contributions to our understanding of the immune system and the mechanisms of autoimmunity. He received a medical degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University. After a residency in internal medicine and rheumatology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Budd completed research fellowships in immunology at Dartmouth, Ludwig Institute in Switzerland and Stanford University.
