(FEBRUARY 28, 2017) With mammography technology shifting from film to digital, cancer detection rates have improved but so have abnormal interpretation rates. Brian Sprague, Ph.D., director of the Vermont Breast Cancer Surveillance System and associate professor of surgery at the Larner College of Medicine, is lead author of a study aiming to produce new benchmarks that will help determine when biopsies are actually needed, thus decreasing abnormal interpretation rates.
