Alan Chant, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor

Training & Education

Dr. Alan Chant received his Ph.D. in Biophysics and Molecular Biology from Portsmouth University (U.K) studying the structural and functional characteristics of Zinc-finger proteins with Dr. Geoff Kneale. For his postdoctoral research, he carried out structural and enzymatic studies on RB69 DNA polymerase and its interactions with 8-oxo-guanine lesions. He was a research associate in Jonathan Boyson’s Lab, working on NKT cells and development of protein tetramer complexes. He has worked as a postdoctoral associate in the Nursing Department at UVM, where he studied the radiation-induced instability of the human genome.

Dr. Chant joined the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics in 2024.
