GrandRounds.Dec.19Join the Teaching Academy on Friday, December 13 for "Behind the Scenes at a Peer-Reviewed Journal - AKA The Making of a Manuscript ” with Lewis First, MD, MS, Robert Larner, MD College of Medicine, University of Vermont. 

This Teaching Academy Grand Rounds will help learners understand the process that a manuscript undergoes when it is submitted to a peer-reviewed journal.  A focus will be placed on what editors look for in a good article and how to provide a proper review of that article.

SAVE THE DATES: IAMSE Winter 2020 Webcast Audio Seminar Series

Join us every Thursday in January and the first Thursday in February for the IAMSE Winter 2020 Webcast Audio Seminar Series. The theme for the Winter series is "How is Health Science Education Tackling the Opioid Epidemic?" where we will feature several speakers from across the US. The Winter IAMSE web-based seminar series will provide a comprehensive synopsis of these efforts to respond to the opioid crisis. Generic  Evaluation Template

Leigh Ann Holterman, PhD has created a generic evaluation template for use if you are facilitating a session (i.e., faculty workshop, professional development session, etc.) and would like to evaluate it, you can use and adapt this form to fit your needs. It includes common questions, as well as resources to identify additional questions you may want to include. It can be found on the Teaching Academy website under Resources for Teaching>Additional Online Resources for Teaching.

 

Call for Proposals: NEGEA Health Humanities Pre-Conference Symposium

The Health Humanities as a Teaching and Learning Strategy; Thursday, April 30, 2020; 12-4pm
Join us for a scholarly exchange as we investigate novel teaching and learning strategies across the UME, GME and CPD continuum through the creative lens of the humanities, including an exploration of the need for, impact of, and barriers to, integrating the health humanities in biomedicine on a curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular basis. To submit a proposal to lead an interactive workshop, oral presentation or a small group discussion, or to learn how you can share resources at this pre-conference, see the Call for Proposals here. All abstracts must be submitted online no later than 11:59pm (EST) on Monday, January 13, 2020. NEGEA 2020 Annual Conference

Thursday, April 30-Saturday, May 2, 2020
The Robert Larner MD College of Medicine will host the 2020 NEGEA Annual Conference. The NEGEA is one of four regional groups of the AAMC’s Group on Educational Affairs (GEA). Its purpose is to promote excellence in the education of medical students, residents and physicians through the professional development of medical educators. Regional meetings provide a forum for exchanging ideas, learning new strategies and developing plans that may facilitate your own work and the implementation of the NEGEA’s mission. Details and registration will be announced this fall!

  • Irvin & Colleagues Flavored E-Cigs & Asthma Study Covered by National Media Outlets

    (OCTOBER 15, 2019) Several news outlets recently covered a research study on flavored e-cigarettes and asthma published in Nature Scientific Reports by Larner faculty and trainees, including senior author and Professor of Medicine Charles Irvin, Ph.D. The study was funded through UVM's Tobacco Center on Regulatory Science (TCORS) grant.

    (SEPTEMBER 9, 2019) A VTDigger article, titled "NEK social services group paid fines for asbestos, other violations," featured comments by UVM Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Arti Shukla, Ph.D., regarding the link between asbestos and lung disease.
