2024 Frymoyer Scholars Program Call for Proposals

Through the Frymoyer Scholars Program, the John W. and Nan P. Frymoyer Fund for Medical Education supports physicians and nurses who are actively engaged in teaching University of Vermont medical and nursing students and who embody the best qualities of the clinician teacher. The program is an investment in outstanding medical education and promotes teaching that emphasizes the art of interprofessional collaborative patient care. More details about the program can be found via the website links below. 

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity by submitting a proposal. Applications for 2024 are due by March 1, 2024. The program has funded 62 projects over the past 23 years. The results accomplished by Frymoyer Scholars have enhanced the learning experience of our students and improved patient care. We look forward to more award-winning projects this upcoming year. 

Research Mentor Training

This two-part workshop is based on the national Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) mentor training curriculum, Entering Mentoring. Spring Writing Retreat for Medical Educators

This half-day retreat will feature dedicated writing time, plus coaching on goal setting, and consultation time with experts on topics such as research design, writing, literature searching, and more.  Click here for more information. Become TalkVermont Faculty!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE TALKVERMONT FACULTY Our interprofessional faculty teach and champion serious illness communication throughout the health network. Most volunteer faculty do the following each year:

  • Teach in 2-3 TalkVermont courses with associated prep days (about 4-9 days per year of teaching)
  • Attend the TalkVermont Annual Retreat (1 full day)
  • Participate in TalkVermont Committees (e.g. Curriculum, Implementation, Research)

Faculty are also eligible and encouraged to teach nationally for VitalTalk (These are typically paid opportunities).

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR We are looking for 6-7 clinicians who have a passion and commitment to teaching serious illness communication to clinicians around the health network and beyond. We are particularly looking for an interprofessional group of colleagues from across the health network who can champion TalkVermont at their site.

HOW TO BECOME TALKVERMONT FACULTY

  • Complete an online application by February 15th at 5pm EST
  • Attend a VitalTalk Faculty Development Workshop
  • Either regionally (see below for details) or nationally

MESRE Mini-Grant Spotlight: Navigating Success Stories

February 29, 2024; 12:00-1:00PM ET. The AAMC GEA Section on Medical Education Scholarship Research and Evaluation (MESRE) will host its inaugural regional mini-grant celebration webinar this Spring. The goals of this webinar include to showcase one outstanding project per region that was awarded a regional mini-grant over the past several years and to invite awardees to share their practical and relevant experience about the grants process to provide guidance to those applying for a mini-grant this cycle. The award recognizes staff members who have made extraordinary contributions to our university and who exemplify the values expressed in Our Common Ground. This year, in an effort to encourage more nominations, submissions will be collected on a rolling basis between now and June 7. Regional/National Call for Proposals

Call for sessions and posters for ABMS Conference 2024

The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) has opened a call for sessions and posters for the ABMS Conference 2024. This health care conference is focused on board certification with a focus on assessment, lifelong learning, improvement, and professionalism. Individuals and organizations are welcome to submit more than one abstract, though each abstract must be submitted separately. All accepted submissions will be presented in-person and presenters will be required to register for ABMS Conference 2024. The deadline for session abstracts and posters is April 1.

    Each January, the Larner community gathers for the Teaching Academy’s Snow Season Education Retreat, an annual event lifting up the work of our medical education community and honoring outstanding educators among our faculty and leaders. Highlights of the two-day event include the Teaching Academy Induction and Award Ceremony, a plenary session, an in-person poster session, workshops, and oral abstract presentations. This year’s retreat was held January 17–19.
