Past Resident Highlights

Congratulations to our graduating resident trainees: Thomas Koster, M.D., Brianna Waller, M.D., Kayla Elliot, M.D., and William Humphrey, M.D., and to our graduating fellows: Matt Dinehart, M.D., dermatopathology fellow, and Noman Javed, M.D., surgical pathology fellow. We are excited to announce that Dr. Rosemary Mattaino and Dr. Michael Madrid will be the Chief Residents for the 2023-2024 academic year. Throughout their residency, Drs. Mattaino and Madrid have been resident advocates, serving on departmental committees to improve the educational experience of our residents. We also want to sincerely thank our outgoing Chief Residents, Dr. Kayla Elliot and Dr. Brianna Waller for their outstanding job. We are grateful for their time, energy, expertise, and strong leadership. We wish them well on their upcoming ABPath Certification exam and fellowships in Boston. (2023)

Dr. William Humphrey was accepted into the American Association of Neuropathologists (AANP) Neurodegenerative Disease Scholars' Program. The program includes a career development workshop each of the next two years to promote neurodegenerative disease neuropathology research and promote the transition of neuropathology trainees into academic research careers. The program includes awards for attendance and travel to the workshops and the national AANP annual meeting. (2023)

2nd year resident, ​Ryan Coates, was selected as the recipient of the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society Travel Award for 2017. The GIPS Travel Award is given annually by the GIPS to a pathology trainee with a demonstrated interest in gastrointestinal pathology. Factors considered in the evaluation of applicants include exposure or lack thereof to GI pathology subspecialty training and demonstrate interest in GI pathology (as evaluated based on CV, publications/abstracts and/or personal communication). The award comes with free registration to the GI course “Gastrointestinal, Liver and Pancreatic Pathology by Harvard Medical School and up to $500 to cover travel-related expenses. (Mar 2017)

2nd year resident Prajesh Adhikari has been elected to the PIER Leadership Group.  This is a multi-organizational committee (College of American Pathologists, Association of Pathology Chairs - PRODS Section, and Association of Pathology Informatics) responsible for the continued development and adoption of the "Pathology Informatics Essentials for Residents Curriculum." From Dr. Laura Greene...a note celebrating the accomplishments of our trainees at the ASDP meeting this past weekend. We had poster presentations by Dr. Tom Rogers, Dr. Agnes Balla, and Dr. Liz Lester. Additionally, Dr. Mustafa Mohammad had a huge honor. His abstract was one of 19 selected for oral presentation. Mustafa did an amazing job and WON 1st PLACE!  Below is a picture of him with his certificate. (October 2016)
