Clinical Simulation Curriculum
Our Clinical Simulation Curriculum aims to provide our residents with hands on learning opportunities to help prepare them for a variety of clinical settings and procedures. We are fortunate to have unlimited access to our College of Medicine's state of the art Clinical Simulation Laboratory; a 9,000 square foot space including inpatient rooms, ER/OR/MICU/SICU, training rooms, skills labs (i.e., laparoscopic), debrief and meeting rooms, as well as 12 outpatient examination rooms (https://www.uvm.edu/medicine/simlab/?Page=facilities.html). Our current simulation curriculum includes resident training in the following clinical scenarios:
Intern Boot Camp:
- 2nd Degree laceration repair
- Circumcision
- Endo Biopsy/ECC/EMC/Para cervical block/IUD insertion
- C-Section
Obstetrical Emergencies:
- Acute post-partum hemorrhage
- Shoulder dystocia
- Ecplamptic seizures
- Forceps/vacuum-assisted deliveries
Surgical Procedures:
- Basic and advanced hysteroscopy/laparoscopic and robotic skills, including laparoscopic knot tying
- 3rd & 4th degree laceration repair
- LEEP/Colposcopy
- Nexplanon training
- Plastic surgery
- Pelvic anatomy (cadaver lab)
- Surgical energy
Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology
Basic and Advanced Ultrasound Skills:
- Biometry, GYN US, US guided procedures (i.e., PUBS, amniocentesis)
- Breast ultrasound
Communication/Team Work Skills:
- Hand-offs - Delivering bad news/Informed consent
