Message from the Chair
Our education programs include a clinical clerkship and electives for 3rd and 4th year medical students respectively with the 4th year electives representing a variety of women's health subspecialty areas, a 4-year residency program in Obstetrics & Gynecology, and fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, as well as Maternal-Fetal Medicine. As health-care professionals and educators, we strive to foster a supportive environment where our students, residents and fellows can obtain clinical and scientific knowledge and learn state-of-the-art techniques for the practice of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences. This environment provides our trainees with the clinical and academic education necessary to support them in becoming highly skilled and compassionate medical professionals with a commitment to the health care of women.
As University based health-care professionals and educators, we work to create a full academic environment. Our faculty actively engage in both internally funded and extramural NIH funded clinical and basic research that seeks to have a positive impact on the advancement of both biomedical science and health care in the field of Women's Health.
Our Department is composed of over 30 Board eligible/certified academic physicians and five Ph.D. faculty members. Our academic physicians have subspecialty interest and training in General Obstetrics & Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Family Planning, Urogynecology and Reproductive Genetics. Our mid-level providers include 9 Certified Nurse Midwives who offer midwifery care for uncomplicated pregnant women, 2 Nurse Practitioners and one Physician Assistant, who offer routine gynecologic care in an outpatient setting. In addition, approximately 20 community based private practice physicians in the Burlington area, most having part-time clinical faculty appointments in the Department, actively participate in our clinical teaching programs. As health-care professionals and educators, we strive to provide compassionate and holistic care for our patients coupled with the ability to offer the latest in clinical and technological advancements in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Located in Burlington, The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, and teaching hospital partner The University of Vermont Medical Center serve as Vermont’s academic medical center. The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is located at Smith 4, Main Campus, 111 Colchester Avenue, Burlington, VT 05401.
Clinical research is conducted both through the Office of Clinical Trials in the Degoesbriand Unit of The University of Vermont Medical Center, as well as in the Clinical Research Center (CRC) located in the Shepardson wing of the main hospital. Basic science research is carried out in the medical school at the Given Health Science Complex which houses laboratories and offices in approximately 4,000 square feet of space.
