​The New Hampshire/Vermont (NH/VT) Schweitzer Fellows Program selected five teams of Larner College of Medicine Class of 2025 medical students as 2022-23 Schweitzer Fellows.

Jay Silveira, Ph.D., assistant professor of biochemistry, was selected to receive a 2022 UVM Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award, which recognizes faculty for excellent undergraduate instruction, innovation in teaching methods and ability to motivate and challenge students.

Polly Parsons, M.D., E.L. Amidon Chair and Professor of Medicine, has been named the next president and CEO of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine.

Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education Christa Zehle, M.D., has announced the appointment of two new associate deans at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont -- Leila Amiri, Ph.D., who has been named Larner's next associate dean for admissions, and Karen George, M.D., M.P.H., who has been named Larner's next associate dean for students.

“Going above and beyond” and consistently demonstrating kindness, compassion and respect were common accolades in the nomination letters for the 2022 Dean’s Awards for Professionalism recipients. On May 3, the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont marked the third anniversary of the formal introduction and celebration of the College’s Statement on Professionalism at a virtual awards presentation ceremony.

Anne Dixon, M.A., BM BCh, professor of medicine, has been named one of four 2022-2023 University Scholars.

In celebration of its standing as a top 100 public research university, the University of Vermont held its first “Research Week” April 18 to 22 to showcase the work of faculty, student and trainee investigators. A number of Larner College of Medicine faculty and trainees received recognition and delivered presentations during the week's events.

UVM Pediatric Primary Care is removing barriers to mental health care with an evidence-based Primary Care Mental Health Integration program, piloted with support from the UVM Health Network.

On April 14, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and his guest, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Denis McDonough, visited UVM's Larner College of Medicine, met with medical student veterans and military scholarship students, and discussed opportunities for physicians at the VA with UVM medical students.

Infants and children living in rural states are less likely than those living in other states to have a chance to enroll in clinical research, especially clinical trials. Underserved and minority children are particularly underrepresented. The University of Vermont is one of 18 sites in a state-of-the-art pediatric clinical research network to improve access to clinical trials for children in rural and underserved areas. Together, the sites constitute the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Institutional Development Awards (IDeA) States Pediatric Clinical Trials Network (ISPCTN).
