(OCTOBER 21, 2024) Stephen Leffler, M.D.’90, president and chief operating officer of the UVM Medical Center and professor of emergency medicine at the Larner College of Medicine, commented to NBC5 about the opening of the new Mental Health Urgent Care Center in Burlington.

On Monday afternoon, the Howard Center’s new Mental Health Urgent Care Center cut the ribbon on its new center and hosted an open house with tours of the space dedicated to mental health support services.

“This is a really big deal for Vermonters,” Leffler said. “For a long time, we have not had enough mental health options for Vermonters who are in crisis. The important thing is it adds capacity to this state for mental health care that we have not had. And it really fills a very specific niche that’s been absent for a long time in Vermont.”
