(AUGUST 23, 2022) As the number of Vermonters hospitalized with COVID-19 begins to trend downward, infectious disease specialist Tim Lahey, M.D., M.M.Sc., professor of medicine, spoke with WCAX-TV Channel 3’s Darren Perron about precautions we still need to keep in mind as fall approaches.

Among Lahey’s recommendations: get vaccinated (even if vaccination does not totally prevent the virus, it will still reduce its severity); be prepared to wear a mask if infection rates start to rise or if you’re in a crowded indoor space; maximize ventilation in enclosed indoor spaces by opening windows or doors to the outside; and if you’re at high risk, seek an official diagnosis as soon as possible so you can access treatments that are very effective if begun early in the course of the illness.
