(JULY 18, 2024) Alicia Jacobs, M.D., associate professor of family medicine, spoke with WCAX-TV about a partnership between the UVM Health Network and Abridge, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform that records doctor-patient conversations and converts them into highly accurate notes in real-time.

Jacobs says the technology allows physicians to be more present during patient visits and helps ease their workload. The technology has been very accurate, but doctors always review all of their notes before finalizing them she says.

“It actually just records the conversation and then creates a very clinician-oriented note that is very logical to me. So it offloads me in two different ways. It offloads me to be present in the visit, and then later on, instead of minutes to hours of note writing, it just takes a few a couple minutes to finish up my day. So it really creates the space for me to not just be present, but also do other, more meaningful work,” Jacobs explains.
