This professorship honors Dr. Schapiro and Ms. Carroll for their years of service and philanthropy to the department of anesthesia, the UVM Larner College of Medicine, and the UVM Health Network.

Dr. Mawe is the Samuel W. Thayer Professor and Director of the Anatomical Gift Program and UVM Larner College of Medicine. He is also an Adjunct Professor for the Department of Pharmacology as well as the Department of Medicine (GI Division). Established in 1910 from contributions made by alumni of the Larner College of Medicine, the Professorship was created to honor Dr. Samuel White Thayer, Dean of the Larner College of Medicine from 1854-71 and 1880-82.

Dr. Maeck was the chair of the department from 1949 to 1975; the Maeck Chair was established in his honor in 2000 by his widow Doris.

Dr. Wong is vice chair of Gynecology, director of Gynecologic Oncology and Urogynecology, associate professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, and associate dean of Continuing Medical and Interprofessional Education. Dr. Wong is the inaugural Williams Professor. This professorship was established in 2018 in memory of Berta Pi-Sunyer Williams who graduated from UVM in 1958 with a degree in nursing. Berta was a long-time employee of the UVM Medical Center and distinguished herself as a nurse through her dedication to her patients.

She was known for her research involving studies of mechanisms of blood coagulation and the compliment system.
