The WeeklyWire is an official communication tool of the Larner College of Medicine. Student feedback led to its development and continues to inform iterative improvements. All non-curriculum-related email communications are directed through The WeeklyWire to help support manageable email inboxes for our students; it's a one-stop-shop for all med school happenings outside of the classroom!

  • Beware of Phishing Scams/Attempts: Some scam can look very legit. UVM will NEVER email you links about your password info. If you click a suspicious link, contact our COMIS Help Desk ASAP for advising, and never hesitate to report/or check any suspicious emails with ETS. Find additional information here.

  • Tell Us About Your Pet! Do you have a pet you love? Larner is planning a pet spotlight series on social media. Please submit a high-quality photo along with your name/pronouns /area of study/class year, pet's name, age, breed/species, and 1-paragraph description. Example spotlight: Meet Scooby, our first Larner Pet Spotlight of the semester! Scooby is a chatty five-year-old great dane who belongs to M1 student John Glenn. Scooby loves watching birds and squirrels through the window, scrounging for scraps of pizza, and bouncing for attention. John attests that Scooby is incredibly curious and sweet, and his "best friend in the whole world". Submit photos and descriptions to Margie Brenner, Digital Content Specialist.


Class of 2025

  • Co2025: Apply to be Selected as an AMA or AAMC Student Member for the 2024-2025 Academic Year- Nominations due September 23. The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) is accepting nominations for student members for the 2024-2025 academic year.  One student  will be selected through a process by the American Medical Association (AMA) and one through a process by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).  Selected students are invited to attend the June 2024 LCME meeting in Chicago, IL as an orientation. All expenses for student member participation in LCME activities are covered by the LCME. View full requirements here.
  • Co2025: Residency Open House at Reading Hospital-Saturday, August 24, 10am - noon, Reading Hospital, West Reading, PA. Explore residency training opportunities at Reading Hospital. Residency applicants are invited to attend Reading Hospital's Residency Open House on Saturday, August 24, 2024, 10:00 am to 12: pm.   •  Co2027:Larner Medical Student LCOM Connect Luncheon-Thursday, August 15th, 12-1PM, Med Ed Pavilion (Outside of MedEd200). This luncheon is for all members of the Class of 2028 and Class of 2027 participating in the Big Sib-Little Sib Program. Your Medical Student Council reserved almost every small group room and large room in the Med Ed Center on Thursday, August 15, 12pm - 1pm, and your Medical Student Council will be serving up pizza, salad, and soda in the Med Ed Center Pavilion for all Connector/Connectee matches to snag some food and meet one another. Full description and lunch menu here.
  • Co2027: Med Mentors Information Session- Friday, August 16th, 12PM, MedEd200. MedMentors offers 1:1 matching as well as panels and clinics for undergrad students interested in medical school.   • Co2028: M1 Event - 2024 Medical Student Leadership Lunch & Learn Series - Session 1 of 3. Tuesday, August 20, 12-1PM. Members of the Class of 2028 are invited to this BYO-bag lunch & learn series to learn about various Student Leadership Opportunities at the Larner College of Medicine.   •  AOA Professionalism Award- Submit statement of interest to AOA faculty councilor no later than Monday, September 30 (national submission deadline is 10/15/2024). For ongoing programs in medical schools or other institutions that represent best practices in the teaching and learning of medical professionalism. Full information here.
  • AOA Award for Excellence in Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity in Medical Education and Patient Care-Submissions due to national chapter no later than Tuesday, October 8. Contact AOA Councilor ASAP if interested in submitting. Recognizes medical schools (and their associated AΩA Chapter) that demonstrate exemplary leadership, innovation, and engagement in fostering an inclusive culture. Full information here.
  • Mentorship Opportunity: Giving a Boost (Medical School Applications)- Sharing an opportunity to mentor premedical students during application cycles! Giving A Boost is a free mentorship program offered to medical school applicants by current medical students across the country. We understand how difficult and expensive the application process can be. While some applicants receive personalized assistance or consulting, many others may enter application cycles at a disadvantage without the right resources or connections. Our group of volunteers who have recently gone through a successful application cycle (from over 30+ schools MD/DO included) are committed to paying it forward and providing accessible support and mentorship which led to acceptances at medical schools nationwide." If you would like to be matched with an applicant to assist with topics such as primary/secondary essays and/or mock interviews, please fill out this volunteer/interest form. You will be paired with applicants who are applying for the 2025-2026 cycle.
  • AOA Robert H. Moser Essay Award: Tuesday, October 22nd submission deadline. One award of $4500. A writing prize to an original, outstanding essay that celebrates the life of a physician. Full information here.
  • The Pharos Poetry Award- Tuesday, November 5th submission deadline.  No need to be AOA; any student can submit. $600 first, $350 second, and $200 third prize. Designed to encourage medical students to write meaningful poetry related to health or medicine. Full information here.
  • Helen H. Glaser Student Essay Award- Tuesday, December 3rd submission deadline. Any student can submit. $1500 first, $1k second, and $850 third prizes available! Designed to encourage medical students to write creative narratives or scholarly essays relevant to medicine. Full information here.
  • Medical Student Service Leadership Project Grant- Deadline Tuesday, January 21, 2025. $9k award to one team of students. Designed to prepare future leaders in medicine and health care. More information here.

  • Save the Date! Larner College of Medicine’s Annual Ice Cream Social- Monday, August 12, 2:00 PM, Given Courtyard.
  • Larner Fitness Center - Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting- Friday, August 16, 12-1PM, Given C120. Medical and Graduate Students, Please join us Friday, August 16th from 12:00 – 1:00 PM for the Larner Fitness Center grand opening and ribbon cutting. Raffle prizes will be awarded at the grand opening, those unable to attend in person will be notified via email if their name is selected. (Prizes include Lululemon, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel!) Enter the Raffle. Entries will be accepted until Thursday, August 15th at 12:00 PM.

  • Register for the August 20th FIRST Webinar: Money Management for Medical School Students- Tuesday, August 20, 2-3PM. Join the AAMC team for an informative webinar and discussion on how to manage your money during medical school. We will answer questions about budgeting, borrowing wisely and other topics such as utilizing resources at your school, keeping an eye on your credit and tips to avoid identity theft. Full information and registration link here.

  • UVM Libraries Book Talk and Author Signing- Friday, August 23, 3:00PM, Howe Library Atrium. Join the Libraries for an author talk and book signing by UVM lecturer Sefakor Komabu-Pomeyie on "I'm Able: A Woman's Advice for Disability Change Agents" Refreshments will be available as well as copies of the memoir for sale.
  • UVM Week of Welcome Events- beginning Monday, August 26. UVM hosts a TON of fun events with free swag and food, all over campus, to welcome the undergrads back; however, these events are open to ALL UVM students. Enjoy!

  • Seeking Medical Students for Research Initiative on Experiences with Racism and Ableism in Medical School- A new research initiative from the DocsWithDisabilities Initiative, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation,  titled "Experiences with Racism & Ableism in Medical School” is seeking medical students with disabilities from underrepresented backgrounds to participate in 1-2 hour research interviews. Their insights and experiences are invaluable in helping us understand and address the challenges faced in medical education and practice. Graduate students are highly sought tenants in the Burlington area and property owners often advertise specifically to them with special rates (less than would be offered to undergraduate students). Don't hesitate to ask housing contacts if they would consider lowering the advertised rate to secure a graduate student; it never hurts to ask!

Lost & Found

Lost something? Email the Office of Medical Education (OME) a description of the item. OME and the Dana Medical Library recently joined the UVM campus-wide lost & found system and search not only the College of Medicine, but campus as a whole to see if it's been turned in. If it hasn't, the office can file a claim for the item should someone turn it in soon!

Found something? Please turn it into either the Office of Medical Education (Given Courtyard n100) or the Dana Medical Library (First floor of the Medical Education Center) and we will be sure to log it into the Campus-Wide Lost & Found Database.

Found items are kept up to 30 days, and then are donated to various local organizations depending on the item.
