AMA Webinar: Well-being and the clinical learning environment

The Teaching Academy will host this upcoming webinar on Monday, November 18 at 4pm in the Dean’s Large Conference Room (Given E105). Physician well-being is influenced by both organizational and individual factors. While medicine can be an extremely rewarding profession, it also can be emotionally and physically exhausting. A physician’s stress and depression can begin in medical school and worsen over time. Creating a learning environment and culture that ensures the psychological, emotional and physical well-being of medical students and residents is critical in the development of competent, caring physicians who are better able to engage with their patients and provide higher quality care. This webinar discusses national innovative efforts to prevent burnout and promote well-being throughout the physician education continuum. Please RSVP to teaching.academy@med.uvm.edu

Position: IDeA Entrepreneurship (I-Trep) Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor, Division of Immunobiology, Department of Medicine, Larner College of Medicine

Year I Came to UVM: 2005

Best Teaching Moment: The I-Trep Program has received lots of positive feedback from participants in our biomedical entrepreneurship training program, and the survey instrument designed by Alison Howe has indicated that our participants have greater confidence in their own entrepreneurial ability after our summer course.  Nevertheless, I wondered at what point we would see the impact of our program on new startup formation and new healthcare innovations moving to market. In August of this year, I was thrilled to see I-Trep alumni were lead inventors of two new startups and three new technologies on the list of nominees for investment by the DRIVEN regional technology transfer hub. Not only were these scientists pursuing the commercialization path for their innovations but they were also being recognized at their home institutions as the most promising assets for healthcare innovation!
