Commencement Participation Policy

Policy 910.00

Policy Statement

Commencement celebrates the accomplishments of students who have successfully completed all the requirements necessary for their degrees.

Participation in UVM's Commencement exercises does not necessarily indicate degree completion or a guarantee thereof. Only when all requirements are completed will a student's degree be awarded.

Eligibility to Participate

Larner College of Medicine students are permitted to participate in Commencement ceremonies if they have completed all their degree requirements, passed any necessary examinations, and have received permission to graduate by the UVM Board of Trustees.

Students may petition the Associate/Assistant Dean for Students to participate if they present a viable, realistic plan for completion of their remaining degree requirements within the academic year of graduation (June 30).

If approved, participants who have not completed all degree requirements will have the anticipated graduation date noted in the Commencement program.
