Gordon Jensen, M.D., Ph.D., professor of medicine and senior associate dean for research at the University of Vermont’s Larner College of Medicine, has been appointed to a parallel role as University of Vermont Health Network Director of Research by John Brumsted, M.D., CEO of the UVM Health Network.

Gordon Jensen, M.D., Ph.D., professor of medicine and senior associate dean for research at the University of Vermont’s Larner College of Medicine, has been appointed to a parallel role as University of Vermont Health Network Director of Research by John Brumsted, M.D., CEO of the UVM Health Network.
This new leadership position was collaboratively created by the UVM Health Network, the UVM Health Network Medical Group and the Larner College of Medicine with a goal of expanding opportunities for cutting-edge research and enhancing the partnership and collaboration between the College and all of the UVM Health Network partner sites. In this new role, Jensen will oversee research throughout the Network and will report to Brumsted.
Jensen joined the Larner College of Medicine in 2015 from Penn State University, where he led the Department of Nutritional Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in nutritional biochemistry and an M.D. from Cornell University, and completed residency training in internal medicine and fellowship training in clinical nutrition at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining Penn State, he was at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Penn.
Recently named a 2019 Fellow of the American Society for Nutrition, Jensen has extensive experience in population-based research focused on nutritional risk status and health outcomes of older persons. He is board-certified in clinical nutrition and internal medicine and conducts a weekly clinic for adult malnourished patients who warrant nutrition support interventions. The author of more than 205 journal articles, reviews, and book chapters, Jensen is the recipient of the 2014 Jonathan Rhoads Lecture, the most prestigious award of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
Nationally, Jensen is a past president of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN), a past-chair of the Association of Nutrition Programs and Departments, and a past-president of the American Society for Nutrition. He has served on advisory panels, study sections, and work groups for the National Institutes of Health and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and served two terms on the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine. He has also served on several leading nutrition journals’ editorial boards.
