(JUNE 4, 2019) A breast cancer study published in
Radiology and co-authored by Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of the Vermont Breast Cancer Surveillance System Brian Sprague, Ph.D., was covered by several online outlets and wire services. Stories appeared on
WebMD,
HealthImaging,
United Press International,
BioSpace, and
Radiology Business. The study may help answer a question about whether breast cancer survivors should have both yearly mammograms and yearly MRIs. Findings showed that "surveillance breast MRI resulted in twofold higher biopsy rates than mammography alone and increased cancer detection but showed no difference in sensitivity or interval cancer rates."
