NHPR Reports on Center on Rural Addiction’s Donation of ‘NaloxBoxes’

February 11, 2023 by Lucy Gardner Carson

(FEBRUARY 11, 2023) UVM’s Center on Rural Addiction is donating “NaloxBoxes” containing doses of the opioid reversal drug naloxone throughout the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire, according to New Hampshire Public Radio.

(FEBRUARY 11, 2023) In response to increasing numbers of overdoses, UVM’s Center on Rural Addiction is donating “NaloxBoxes” containing doses of the opioid reversal drug naloxone, also known by the brand name Narcan, for use throughout the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire. The naloxone comes from the Center on Rural Addiction, the Vermont Department of Health, and the New Hampshire Doorway.

The boxes are installed outside of public spaces like libraries and downtown community sites, and anyone can take a two-dose box of the nasal form of the medication, which can be lifesaving, at no cost.

The goal is to “prevent people from dying so they have another chance to make a choice, possibly for recovery,” said Angel Hudson, Vermont medical case manager for the Lebanon-based HIV/HCV Resource Center, which is working to increase access to naloxone across the Granite State.
