* Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Workshop * ~ Sunday, January 22, 2:00-6:00 pm
Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Workshop is a unique hands-on experience to teach clinicians bedside application of portable ultrasound. Focus areas: Machine Intro/Knobology, RUQ/Biliary, Aorta, DVT, Renal, and Nerve Blocks.
* Mechanical Ventilation and Troubleshooting for Rural Emergency Providers * ~ Monday, January 23, 1:30-3:30 pm
Imagine you have just intubated the sickest patient you have seen in months, the RT is off tonight and the helicopter is not flying.
In this two hour hands-on session participants will perform mechanical ventilation using real ventilators in simulated critically ill emergency department patients and develop an approach to troubleshooting common ventilator alarms. Dual boarded ED-ICU physicians will lead participants through lung protective ventilation, obstructive lung disease, and difficult to ventilate ARDS in the early phase of care encountered in the ED. Participants will get hands-on experience manipulating the ventilator, tubing, and changing settings to adjust to common ED pathologies. We will also review troubleshooting common pitfalls and problems using a combination of point of care ultrasound, end tidal capnography waveforms, and airway pressures to find and fix the underlying problem. In the current world, filled with long boarding times and difficult transfers to the ICU, this sesesion will equip rural emergency medicine providers with safe ventilation practices and a tool box to manage common complications.
* Wilderness Medicine Workshop * ~ Wednesday, January 25, 12:00-4:00 pm
Join in for a realistic simulation of a technical rescue with Stowe Mountain Rescue! Plan on an interactive session involving a hike, evacuation and resuscitation from start to finish. Participants need to be prepared to be outside and hiking for the afternoon, ideally with microspikes / yak tracks, but no other technical gear required.
